US Poker Sites 2017

Best US Facing Poker Rooms in 2017

This website (postolopis.org) is predominantly singing the praises of PokerStars because we feel that is the best online poker site to play at. However, if you reside in the US – the land of the free – PokerStars is not available to you because George Bush believed that poker players were all a bunch of international terrorists, who were money-laundering their $20.00 weekend poker money by illicit means, and he signed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act into law in 2006.

PokerStars did not feel that they were doing anything wrong, and continued to provide a service to online poker players in the States; only for the FBI and the Department of Justice to shut the company down in April 2011 on a technicality. The technicality was subsequently thrown out in return for a large-ish fine, but PokerStars cannot still provide online poker for players in the US because the brick and mortar casinos do not want the competition (from a site that offers $0.01/$0.02 Texas Hold´em).

The US Alternatives to PokerStars

Fortunately there are several other online poker sites still providing a service to (most) poker players in the US, who do not have the profile of PokerStars (so the B&M Casinos are not so scared of them) nor the money to pay large-ish fines (so the FBI and DoJ do not bother pursuing them). These sites are licensed and secure, and operate outside of US jurisdiction to ensure they are not closed down on the whim of a vote-seeking politician or other public servant.

The leading online poker sites which accept players from the US attract three to four thousand players a night between them – rising to five or six thousand during the peak Sunday hours. Each of the sites has a “feature” weekend tournament, guaranteeing a prize pool of up to $100,000, and each has their own bonus schemes and VIP Programs – similar to PokerStars, but not always operated in the same way.

Poker Sites for US Players

Each of these poker sites also has its unique features, and we have listed some of them here as a guide. However, there is no one-size-fits-all and you are advised to consider what it is you want from your poker experience (over than to make money) before lumping in with your hard-earned cash.

Where Can I Play Real Money Poker in the US?

Our chart below lists the States from which some US poker sites will not accept players. If you live in a State which does not appear on the list, you are safe to play at any of the US poker sites listed above. We have listed the chart by State and network, as each network has more than one online poker site which accepts players from the US associated with it (except for Bovada/Bodog).
